I would say it is 50/50 between technical design and then documents to support the design. Even things like quantities of electrical cable etc. need wriritng down!

Drawings are the biggest bit of paperwork I have to do, everything I work on has to have an approved dimensional drawing at the end, like a blueprint. I also write technical reports to tell people what I found out from investigations and tests, plus there are some documents needed to formally record design decisions in a project. I would say it’s roughly half my time for most of a project, in the early stages it’s very little paperwork like 20% but at the end for a few weeks it will be lots like 75-90%.
