The same as my top tip for designing anything:
Think about what the user needs from it

I need my bicycle to be robust, easy to repair, and comfortable
A pro cyclist needs their bike to be light, incredibly efficient, and aerodynamic.

So it has to be right for the user, and that guides all the decisions you make because there is no such thing as a perfect bike. Laura Trott isn’t going to need her track bike to last for 10 years, and I don’t need aero rims to ride to the shops.
