      You CAN make a metal paperclip float on water.

      Get some toilet roll and tear off a piece. Its made up of layers so open it out so you have a very thin piece.

      Take a clear bowl of water. Place the very thin paper on the surface. then very slowly and gently place a paper clip on top.

      Then paper will sink and the clip should float. This is because water is effectively a mesh held together by its atoms! You will see what I mean
